Baroness Emma Magdolna Rozália Mária Jozefa Borbála "Emmuska" Orczy de Orci, more commonly known as Baroness Emmuska Orczy, was a notable figure in the literary world, acclaimed predominantly for her series of adventure novels featuring the Scarlet Pimpernel. Born in Tarnaörs, Hungary on September 23, 1865, Orczy grew up in a noble family that eventually settled in London. There, she attended the West London School of Art and pursued an interest in writing and illustration. Her literary career began earnestly with 'The Emperor's Candlesticks' in 1899, but it was in 1905 that she achieved significant success with 'The Scarlet Pimpernel'. This success was followed by numerous sequels and an adored stage adaptation. Beyond the action and intrigue of her Scarlet Pimpernel series, Orczy also wrote romance novels, one of which is 'The Heart of a Woman' (1909).
