Baroness Emma Magdolna Rozália Mária Jozefa Borbála "Emmuska" Orczy de Orci, known as Baroness Orczy (1865-1947), was a Hungarian-born British novelist, playwright, and artist of noble origin. Best remembered for her series of novels featuring the Scarlet Pimpernel, a valiant hero during the tumultuous times of the French Revolution, Baroness Orczy carved a distinct niche in historical adventure and romance genres. She was born in Tarnaörs, Hungary, and later moved with her family to London, where she attended the West London School of Art and later the Royal Academy of Arts ('Orczy', 2021).
