Beschreibung
The Encyclopedia of Lipidomics will present a complete overview of the field from fundamentals to new discoveries and from concepts, theories and experimental techniques to clinical and industrial applications. The book will develop with the active involvement of a strong editorial board comprised of leaders from the field. The Encyclopedia of Lipidomics intends to be a comprehensive reference resource serving to bridge the gap between clinical and basic science investigators and provide authoritative and digested information to students, scientists as well as non specialists. The book will have an edge over protocol type of works and databases in terms of having wider coverage through rigorous essays on terms, concepts, experimental and analytical techniques, applications and new challenges. Since lipidomics has strong linkages with several of the other biomedical and life sciences disciplines, the proposed encyclopedia will have a wide audience including graduate students, researchers and different levels of scientists in biomedicine, cellular and molecular biology, bioengineering, physiological and biochemistry, and pharmacology across both academia and industry.
Autorenportrait
Markus Wenk obtained his PhD in Biophysics from the Biozentrum at the University of Basel, Switzerland. He is currently Associate Professor, Assistant Head of Department of Biochemistry at the National University of Singapore (Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Faculty of Science, Department of Biological Sciences). He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences and Engineering. Since 2005 he is Privatdozent in the Faculty of Science at the University of Basel. In this capacity he has initiated and is co-directing an international joint graduate program between Singapore and Switzerland. He is also founder and organizer of the biennial International Singapore Lipid Symposium. He established SLING, the Singapore lipidomics incubator, an interdisciplinary program at NUS dedicated to innovation, education and partnership in lipidomics research. Before moving to NUS, Dr. Wenk worked at Yale University as a research faculty scientist at the Department of Cell Biology. At Yale he introduced and established novel techniques for analysis of phospholipid metabolism pertinent to membrane dynamics at the neurological nerve terminal. His work has been instrumental in the conceptual advancements of the field of neurobiology and lipid metabolism. He is now spearheading novel approaches in systems scale analysis of lipids and the interacting molecules. Dr. Wenk is recognized as one of the leading thinkers and investigators worldwide in Lipidomics and is the recipient of several honors and awards for his work. In addition to contributing numerous papers for top most journals, Dr. Wenk is the author of A Manual for Biochemistry Protocols (World Scientific, 2007) and co-editor of "Lipids" (Methods in Cell Biology). In addition, he is Executive Editor of the Elsevier Journal Progress in Lipid Research and reviewer for top international journals including Nature.
