Huizhong Tian,male, born in 1925, graduated from medical college of National Henan university in 1949, professor, research fellow, PhD student supervisor, expert with State Department special allowance, honorary director of the department of Spine surgery of Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, honorary director of research institute of spine surgery at the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, honorary president of Xinjiang Spinal Cord Injury Society. He has been engaged in orthopaedics for 60 years and performed various surgical operations in more than 13,000 cases. He is one of the founders of Chinese spine surgery and he has made outstanding contributions in the field of spinal surgery such as "Total Vertebral Column Osteotomy for Correction of Severe Scoliosis" which is the first international initiative. The inventions of Tian's spine osteotome and portable pediatric halo-pelvic ring traction device have obtained national patents, National Invention Award and the International Gold Medal Award. He once had served as director of the Research Institute of Spine Surgery of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, president of Xinjiang Spine Surgery Hospital, visiting researcher of orthopaedics of Tokyo University, visiting professor of orthopaedics of Hirosaki University, vice-president of American-Chinese Medical Association of orthopaedics surgery society, chief editor of American Journal of Orthopaedics, vice-president of Chinese Spinal Injury Research Society, deputy director of Research Institute of Spinal Cord Injury of chinese medical sciences university, consultant of the Professional Committee of Spinal Cord Injury of Guangdong Province, etc. He has written and published 30 professional books such as" Spinal Deformity Surgery", "Spinal Deformity & Osteotomy", "Ankylosing Spondylitisacology", "Practical Spinal Surgery", "Practical Spine Surgery Atlas", "Operative Orthopedics Gist & Atlas", "Halo Pelvic Distraction Technique for Spinal Deformity", "Cervical Spine Gist & Atlas", "Pediatric Operative Orthopedics", "Spinal Deformity Surgery", "Surgical Techniques for the Cervical Spine","Spinal Osteotomy Orthopedic". He has written and published 10 professional books such as Practical Spinal Surgery, Practical Spine Surgery Atlas, Internal Fixation Technique for the spine, Surgical techniques for spinal tuberculosis.
