This is the story of the soviet official Egor Karlovich Filyurin, the citizen of the provincial town of Pishcheslav, who became invisible. It happens so because of the invention of the «local Kulibin» Babsky. Having washed with the soap from the freckles, made by Babsky, Filyurin really does not have any freckles any more, but they escape together with his sinful body. Having none of the desire to do it, Filyurin becomes the real «conscience of the whole city». Everybody knows that there is an invisible person in the town, who can easily see all the mean things and small sins and even real crimes. Having fear, that Filyurin will tell about that, the citizens of the town gradually start becoming honest and decent citizenry.
