Reading is a basic and and a life skill to all human beings. This is because the ability to read makes learners to excel in a academics and to actively participate in the society.learners therefore need a strong foundation in reading right at their formative years. Therefore the strategies used to teach reading to learners in lower primary are worth exploring so as to determine those that facilitate reading and those that do not.

Mary Susan Anyiendah undertook her P1 certificate at Murang'a Teachers and later went for a degree at Masinde Muliro University where she emerged the best graduating student in English and Literature. She qualified for a masters scholarship with Aga-Khan University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Language Education with the University of Nairobi
