Born on July 24, 1867, to an eminent Victorian family, Benson was the fifth child of Edward White Benson, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and his wife, Mary. Educated at Marlborough and King's College, Cambridge, he excelled in his studies and showed an early talent for writing. After university, he delved into the world of literature and his works spanned various genres, but he was particularly celebrated for his social satires and supernatural fiction. His writing is marked by a lightness of touch and a rich vein of humour.
