Speech research is a very dynamic field of science, and there is no doubt that its results have practical applications like speech pathology, speech technology, education etc. For understanding the recent questions we have to know how we got here. This volume contains the papers of the Sixth International Workshop on the History of Speech Communication Research (HSCR 2024). From the presented studies we can learn about the careers of the great figures in the history of phonetics, early methodologies, tools and databases, the history of the understanding and research of a particular phonetic issue or phenomenon, or even the research characteristics of a major issue over decades. These studies are important not only from the historical perspective but also in inspiring the future generation of phoneticians for trying new methods and raising questions. We recommend the volume for present and future phoneticians, speech researchers and everybody who is interested in the history of science.
